The University of Plymouth Choral Society is delighted to welcome Alice Dennis BEM GTCL LTCL to be our Musical Director from 19th September 2017.
Alice is a member of the professional body the Incorporated Society of Musicians (Private Teachers Section), is fully DBS checked and was recently honoured with the British Empire Medal in the Queens 90th Birthday honours for Services to Music in Aberdeenshire.
Alice is a graduate of Trinity College of Music, London and has just moved down to the South West after many years of leading the Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society, which is based just North of Aberdeen. The family were based there working in the oil industry, but are all living back in England now.
HHCOS and several groups under their umbrella, were all non-auditioned but nevertheless had many successes in competitions and festivals and gained a great reputation for a high performance standard in their concerts and opera productions up there.
Alice is a pianist and singer and has been a private teacher for many years, so will be able to help us all with our vocal production.
She says she is very excited to take on this new role, really enjoyed her audition with the choir in June, and can't wait to get started in September.
Farewell to Simon During the seventeen years the University of Plymouth Choral Society has been privileged to have Simon Ible as our Musical Director, our choir has become a bigger, better and happier organisation. Simon took a group of 45 singers and transformed them into the 140-strong membership we see today. On the way he has given us the benefit of his musical experience, expertise, enthusiasm and humour and raised us – a community choir – to a level of performance worthy of first class soloists and musicians, such as we never dreamt of deserving. Simon has our sincere gratitude for all he has done for us and, most importantly, enormous affection from us all. Enjoy your retirement, Simon.
